EM 100: A History

Let's look back at Education Matters Journey to 100 Editions

Our journey began with the launch of the first edition of Education Matters on 16 July 2019. At that time, we published the content in a simple PDF format, aiming to share valuable avenues for training and development with SABP and reached 4000 views in our first year. As we continued to grow and evolve, so did our approach. On 13 January 2022, under the guidance of Vanessa Zajdlic, we transitioned to a more dynamic and engaging format using Sway, allowing us to present content in a more interactive and visually appealing way. This shift marked a significant step forward in enhancing the reader experience and jumped us onwards to 7500 views that year.

Recognising the need for even greater interactivity and accessibility, we made another transition on 5 October 2022, adopting the Flipping Book format. We kept growing and the following year reached over 10,000 views. This change provided a more immersive digital reading experience, offering features like page- flipping animations and better compatibility across devices.

Then, on 5 September 2023, we undertook a major rebrand, unveiling a fresh new style that brought us even closer to the sleek and modern look we have today. This rebranding showcased our dedication to continually enhancing Education Matters. In 2024, Jake O’Hare joined the team, driving our mission to deliver relevant, engaging content and helping us achieve our goal of 15,000 views this year. With each transition, Education Matters has grown stronger, more accessible, and better equipped to serve the needs of our Trust, and we are excited to celebrate 100 editions of progress, innovation, and shared learning!

Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony | 2 December 2024

On 2 December 2024, we proudly celebrated the achievements of our graduates. Eleven graduates attended the event, joined by Graham Wareham, Chief Executive; Aruna Mehta, Chair; Jo Lynch, Chief Nursing Officer; Cheryl Newsome, Chief People Officer. Over the next two pages, you'll find the inspiring comments shared by the graduates' managers .

Alex has been part of the COO team since 2023 and I have very much valued Alex’s drive and commitment to her study. This has often meant a lot of out of hours work and at times when day to day work and other pressures have made it very difficult. Nevertheless, she has stuck with it and to her credit she has achieved great results – she has every reason to be proud of her achievement as am I.

Alex Vaughan

Lorna Payne Chief Operating Officer

Charleen Bianco

I have seen and heard how important becoming a Nursing Associate is to her and the attitude to put theory into practice and ensure she is delivering a high standard of care, both Physical and Mental Health. I have also seen her leadership shine through, and she is not afraid to always place the person central to everything she does in her role. She is a valuable asset to the Trust.

Richard Ilsley Associate Director | SW Locality

Daniel Mlambo

Nursing Times Workforce Awards | 28 November 2024 Education Noticeboard

Our Education team attended the ‘Nursing Times Workforce & Summit Awards’ last Thursday. The team was shortlisted for the Nursing Times Workforce Summit and Award in the highly competitive "Best Workplace for Learning and Development" category. Although we did not win, the team had a fantastic night surrounded by other wonderful NHS teams from all over the country. Our team's entry, titled " Know What, Know Where, Know How ", has garnered significant attention as it addresses the issue many healthcare organisations struggle to address, that of how to effectively communicate the extensive range of courses and educational opportunities for both clinical and non- clinical staff.

Mette Laszkiewicz Director of Education

The recognition by the Nursing Times is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and forward-thinking approach of our Education Team. We are proud of this achievement and look forward to the continued impact of our efforts on the professional growth and development of our workforce.

Cheryl Newsome Chief People Officer

Education Team’s Summary Submission

“SABP provides high quality internal and external education to all clinical and non -clinical staff, thereby enhancing the care we provide to users of our services. If staff don’t know what, where and how to access education courses; providing best education opportunities will have little impact. The Education team introduced a fortnightly magazine style publication that is circulated to all staff. This includes an easy-to-print version for sharing hard copies and a QR code for quick access on mobile devices. This initiative has significantly increased awareness and participation in our educational programmes, upskilling and valuing staff, boosting morale, and ensuring retention.”
