Career Pathways: Jo Lynch Chief Nursing Officer

Jo’s Career Journey

I am honoured to be part of SABP, an organisation that offers so many opportunities for progression.

Jo Lynch is our Chief Nursing Officer and has been in post since 2022, however Jo’s career began in 1993 when she joined East Surrey Priority Care, that later became Surrey and Borders, as a Healthcare Assistant in the Dorking Community Mental Health Team. Jo later began her nurses training and completed 90% of her placements working at East Surrey Priority Care. Upon becoming a newly qualified nurse in 1997, Jo was then employed at Surrey Heartland’s NHS Trust, and has worked her way through our organisation in many varied roles, both on our wards and in community settings. From 2019 Jo was our interim Deputy Chief Nurse, was appointed substantively in 2021 then appointed as Chief Nursing Officer in 2022. She is particularly passionate about bridging the gap between frontline care and support and strategy with the golden thread of ensuring that the voices of the people we serve, and the pressures and concerns of our nursing staff play their part in driving forward our strategic ambitions. Jo is driven by her personal values of engagement and building relationships which mirror the lifelong relationship we so often have with people and their families.

We are pleased to advise that we have had an update regarding e-Learning running issues in ESR. Following changes to the Learning Hub infrastructure which hosts the e-Learning for ESR we are seeing evidence of improvements when launching our courses. This will continue to be monitored for regression. Please give priority to the completion of your Information Governance and Data Security module if you are no longer compliant in order for the Trust to achieve the minimum 95% target for 30th June.

Leadership

Congratulations to our most recent cohort on the completion of their LMDP programme!

6 June 2023 saw the Leadership and Development team celebrate the November 2023 cohort’s completion of their Leadership and Management Development Programme (LMDP). The group came together to share with each other their learning from the programme. Each person was asked to put together a short presentation showcasing what they had learnt and how it has impacted their leadership style. It was fascinating to hear how people have interpreted the learning in their own ways and how varied we are in how we utilise our learning. Some profound changes have happened amongst the group, as well as confidences unlocked to explore what their unique leadership possibilities could be.

The Leadership and Development Team wish them all the very best for the future and hope to see them progress onto future leadership programmes.

WELLBEING MATTERS

Hybrid Working Live Workshop, 11 th July 2024 Here for You is our staff mental health & wellbeing service that offers expert, confidential, psychological support to all colleagues in our Trust. At Surrey and Borders, we dedicate our time to looking after others whilst often forgetting to look after ourselves. This page offers you the opportunity to take a few minutes to switch off from your busy day. Here for You Why is education important for our wellbeing? Learning new things is good for our wellbeing; it exercises our brain, boosts our confidence and gives us a sense of achievement.

Here for You are encouraging staff to book onto their new ‘Hybrid Working’ workshop, taking place on 11 July | 10:00 – 14:00.

This workshop considers the shared and individual experiences of hybrid working, acknowledging both the benefits and challenges that can arise. Strategies for staying connected with teams, as well as ways to support the wellbeing of ourselves and our colleagues whilst hybrid working are explored. The workshop also looks at ways to manage the transition back into the office and further support and resources are shared.
